About us

Welcome to the HIGHLY PRAISED, Hilton Pre-Primary School!

General Information

Often parents are distraught when they pick up their children and ask the age old question “So,what did you do today?” The answer is often “nothing.” Well, at Hilton Pre-Primary we can assure you that this is not the case. Our professionally trained teachers have specialized in early childhood education and have the insight and ongoing training into the developmental needs of our young children. Their focus is a holistic one, encompassing the whole child to realize their potential physically, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and creatively in a warm, caring environment where your child’s needs come first and they feel safe and secure. We are registered with the Department Of Basic Education and the Department of Social Development and we have high standards that are maintained to keep our teachers abreast of all the latest educational trends.

Safety

Strict standards are applied to ensure the safety and health of the children. Each play area is structured and supervised by a teacher. Members of staff are all trained in first aid and basic CPR.

Feeder Schools

Hilton Pre-Primary has a good working relationship with Laddsworth, Cowan House, Cordwalles, Merchiston as well as The Wykeham Collegiate and St John’s DSG. Majority of children attend Laddsworth.

Parental Involvement

We believe in a holistic approach to education and therefore a strong link with home is of huge importance to the staff at Hilton Pre-Primary. We offer feedback to parents in the  first term through parent interviews, in the  second term we conduct a parent and child playdate, in the third term, only parents of the children who are experiencing issues are called in and in the fourth term we do a written report on each child from Grade RRR to Grade R. Ducklings get a portfolio of achievements when they leave the Ducklings Unit. We pride ourselves on the early detection of learning difficulties and our Grade R class is assessed for school readiness before they are promoted into Grade 1. Parents are also invited to join the school’s Parent Committee.

Our Facilities

Hilton Pre-Primary was one of the model pre-primaries built by the education department in the 1970s. Its complete focus being a child-friendly environment, from all the classrooms leading on to a quadrangle playground, to little toilets and hand basins suited to the little ones. Every aspect of the school is designed to give the children a learning experience, from our beautiful fairy garden to our spider web, climbing wall and all sorts of play opportunities. Opportunities such as outdoor play in a beautiful, huge grassy area of the school with interesting nooks and crannies. A fantasy room where both boys and girls can dress up and role play. A creative room where children are encouraged to do free art as well as a more structured art activities including playing with play dough, cutting, sticking and box construction. A cognitive area where children are exposed to puzzles and educational games, construction toys and a host of Montessori equipment. Sensopathic play is encouraged, with senior and junior sandpits which are changed every day and filled with exciting, challenging toys. Sensopathic trays are also put out every day, making children aware of different textures and senses. A block room is an area dedicated to building creatively with three dimensional objects.
